Ms. Reid - School Counselor

As the school counselor, it is my goal to provide the Academy community, parents, students, and teachers with an exemplary, ongoing professional comprehensive counseling and academic guidance program that emphasizes prevention and early intervention services for all children in all grades of the school; to provide support to other elementary programs and continually strive to improve the general school climate. In addition, I strive to work cooperatively with other

community resources to increase the likelihood that children receive appropriate services when

their needs exceed the scope of a school-based program.

Career Readiness

Career readiness is a lifelong process guided by the principles of awareness, exploration and preparation. The process begins at the elementary level with awareness of self and exploration of work and careers. In middle school, students continue this process and begin to make decisions connected to their concept of self and potential career options. During the high school years, students continue to gain self-awareness, evaluate options, make further decisions and take action in preparation and pursuit of their career and life goals.

The career readiness process cultivates meaningful connections between students’ learning and their career interests. Students gain awareness of changing industry, academic and skill requirements and workforce needs. The career readiness process creates opportunities for students to consider their skills and passions, lifestyle goals, who they are as an individual, and how they see themselves as a contributing member of society.
